Joanne,it is not being selfish to take care of yourself first, especially when you have children depending upon you. If you are empty, you have nothing left to give others and your children are the first to suffer. I hear you loud and clear and I know exactly what you mean and I even though I finally stopped waiting and took control after eight years I still wish I’d done this earlier. Thank you for that it helps me know I’m not alone in this

What a great analogy between helping yourself before helping others and the oxygen mask on an airplane. And while I pray that I’ll never have to experience the oxygen mask on an airplane, it was a very good point.

I agree with you that being independent is a very good trait to possess this day in age, and it is a very good thing to pass onto your kids. While we should never strive to be alone, it is a horrible thing to be completely dependent on someone else, and especially many people.

Overall it was a great message of “Stop waiting and go for what you want in your life!”
